Wanted new earphones for iPod. So trotted off to IC yesterday where nice salesperson recommended Marley Jammin Smile with which I would have been quite happy were I to use them while sitting still. Unfortunately, sitting still defeats the purpose for which I have an iPod. Problem: when earphone cable brushes against anything there is very audible, very irritating microphonic noise.
Return to IC today (14 March), explain problem, want to exchange for Apple Earpods (same price). Am told I can't return earphones for hygenic reasons. I point out that this not stated on returns policy. IC person counters that "warranties exclude negligence, misuse, abuse, power surges and incorrect installation". Apparently my use of earphones falls under negligence.
Huh?
Negligent by plugging phones into iPod & listening for some 10 minutes? I now feel like Monty Python's Norwegian Blue: stunned.
As the manager was off sick today, I am to return to this store tomorrow for the next installment as only he can authorise such a stupendous exchange. Can't wait.
