We purchased steak at checkers on Saturday 12 January for a braai later on that same day, upon opening the meat realized by the putrid smell that the meat was off and had been going bad for a few days. I immediately took the meat back to my local checkers where we had purchased it and after receiving nothing but a shoulder shrug from the lady behind the counter in the meat section asked to speak to the store manager. The manager on duty admitted to me that the fridges in the meat section had been broken for a few days and that he had asked the staff to check the meat but obviously they had not bothered to do so. it was then that I noticed all the water leaking from the fridges onto the floor, they had placed cardboard over the water to try and absorb the water from the leaking fridges. The manager refunded me for the meat I returned and gave me another steak to take home. Big surprise, that meat had also gone off!! Checkers northriding are willingly and knowingly selling rotten meat to the public, absolutely appalling!! I will never buy meat at checkers again, woolworths are more expensive but at least you get quality for your money.
