My sister and I went for a shopping trip to Gateway on Saturday, 21 December 2013. Needless to say, this is the busy time of the year which means the mall is very busy and the queues are long. We spent the whole day there, queueing in various shops and eating something at a restaurant. When we came to pay for our parking the fee was R50! My sister's first reaction was that there must be something wrong. We know Gateway's parking fees are higher in average to most other malls and they don't offer any sort of discount for shopping at certain shops like Pavilion or Westwood Mall, but this takes the cake. When inspecting the price list, we learnt that for up to 7 hours you are charged R13, anything after the price jumps up to R50, which is also the price for a lost ticket! Where is the logic in that? I am not arguing about the time spent at the mall, but feel that the parking prices are structured very unfairly. They are basically telling customers to get lost within 7 hours. I can understand if they are perhaps trying to prevent people from leaving their cars there overnight, but shouldn't there be a way for genuine customers to be relieved from this rip-off?
