As a vegetarian & a health conscious individual, i am very happy with the new laws in SA pertaining to labelling contents of food items. i was recently at the Dainfern Super Spar and was amazed to see that all items in bakery section are nicely labelled with the food contents. i was also amazed to see croissants made without egg. when i enquired with one of the sales ladies a polite baker came over and assisted me. i enquired about if the label is correct and that there is no egg content. He mentioned to me no egg in the manufacture of croissant, however its is pasted/wiped with egg, prior to baking. please be advised that there are many vegetarians that do not eat egg, including many Hindu and Buddhist groups. there are also many people that have allergies to egg. please advise if your other egg pasted/wiped breads, biscuits etc have been labelled incorrectly and if you plan to correct this.
