Three years after the purchase of my wedding ring, the main stone comes out. I took the ring to where my husband bought it (Sterns Jewellers-Sandton) last week. I can't remember the name of the consultant that serviced me. She told me since the ring's guarantee has expired it will be taken to their repair centre for assessment. She told me to expect a call informing me of how much the stone replacement will cost. On Wednesday afternoon, 15 May 2013, I receive a call from the consultant, who told me that replacing the stone will cost us R10 000.She also mentioned, in her response to some of my questions, that Sterns Sandton has been getting a number of its clients sending their jewellery for repairs and most of these are out of a guarantee. This I find to be very interesting, over an above being perplexed at the amount I've just been quoted. The calculations are say: the ring was bought for R12 000 three years ago (this is not the only stone in the ring mind-you). If replacing the stone is going to cost us R10 000, my calculations tell me the ring, minus the stone costs R2000.This I find to be ridiculous. I feel Sterns is taking us for a ride & am looking at consulting with Consumer Council.
