Still Charging Me after Casellation

On 03/08/12 My husband received a call form ADT's response team saying the gate to our yard is open & the might still be in our yard/house, they are scared of our dogs can we send someone to lock them up so they can enter. This upset us very much, it is giving a false sense of security. So I sent them an e-mail on 31/08/12 to cancel the service & acc. with them effective from 30/09/12 (a notice period from 01/09/12 to 30/09/12) The first automatic response (after 2 further mails from me) was on the 05/09/12. Eventually on 20/09/12 I got a phone call from a guy trying to convince me not to cancel. I told him not to waist his or my time & to do what he has to to get the account cancelled. I then received a letter stating that I am still in contract until Oct 13 & that we will be charged with cancellation fee of 30% & that attached to the letter is an invoice... I saw no invoice.. The letter attached was not made out to me, nor did it have an invoice number or date on it. It also did not mention anything that I had to pay it cash into their account within 7 days or the acc will not be cancelled. I cancelled the D.O. & now they are trying to blacklist us. They have no right
