Extract of letter sent to Ster-Kinekor after seeing Salinger at Brooklyn Nouveau: First the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen obstructed the movie. I was told by management that the person running the projector only starts the movie and then leaves his/her duty behind to tend to other cinemas. Then we realised that the people interviewed were not credited. Throughout the film there was a black screen for up to 10 seconds with silence. Finally there was dramatic music and blank screens (where you supposedly find out what happened to Salinger's writings) we realised that the movie was supposed to have titles and that they were missing. I complained to the manager. She did not believe me. We went in but the manager didn't see anything wrong. But we waited for a minute until again, the black screen with the dramatic music appeared. This all coincided with the movie's end. Basically, after spending two hours in the cinema, we still haven't seen the movie. This letter of complaint is not to attack Ster-Kinekor or the Brooklyn Cinema Nouveau. My aim is to make you aware of a problem which can be fixed.
