Bloemfonteiners won't get to see Les Miserables due to the fact that there are not enough people who will go and see the film. Apparently we are definitely not cultured movie goers. When we inquired why Les Mis will not be shown in Bloem, Ster Kinekor said:
"unfortunately though Les Miserables is an Oscar nominated film its still quite niche in genre being a musical. We therefore will not have a widespread release as the copies we have are of a very limited number. It will only show at just a selection of KZN, Gauteng and WCape cinemas"
I do want to commend Ster Kinekor though for their prompt response to our request, AND the fact that they said they will 'try' to see what can be done. So am not complaining about their customer service, just the fact that they put the population of Bloemfontein in a box labelled "No culture please, we are Bloemfonteiners! "
This made us have a good look at other movies we do NOT get to see here in Bloem, and it seems that not a single one of this year's Golden Globe winners will be shown here. I appreciate their decisions are based on profit margins, but Les Mis is not just any musical! So sad we may miss this on the 'big' screen!
