Recently I received an email from Multichoice advising me that, from early July, the Series channel on Dstv would be split into 3 separate channels, but that only one of the 3 channels would be available to Dstv Compact subscribers.
As a Dstv Compact subscriber of many years, I have watched how the content of the bouquet has changed over time. Generally I have found that the content offered has increasingly offered less value for money. Channels do get added to the bouquet occasionally but they are usually "worthless" channels that add little if no value for money. The only time that channels worth watching were added to the bouquet was soon after Top Tv was launched and their top-end offering was in competition to Dstv Compact - at that stage suddenly channels worth watching (like SET and VUZU) were added.
Another disturbing feature that I have noticed is that popular series that initially aired on Series channel were later moved to other channels not available to Dstv Compact subscribers (e.g. American Idol)
If Multichoice are serious about offering their Dstv Compact subscribers value for money, they would offer them at least 2 if not all 3 of the new Series channels.
