At the beginning of September we went to look at a townhouse for rent in #5 Eros complex, Honeydew. We were shown the place by Stefan, and were assured that the complex is pet friendly. We requested an application form and submitted it, and were told that the rental will be advertised untia deposit has been paid. I paid a deposit of R6655 (About US$650) to secure the unit. When we received the lease contract there were clauses such as a right to arbitration that is not necessarily in a standard Lease contract.
We requested that the clauses in the contract be negotiated, as is a normal request for an agreement that would result in a cost of approx. R80000 (US$8000)
Even though I had paid the deposit I saw that the unit was continually advertised and Rent A Den refused any negotiation of the lease contract with the owner of the property. Rent A Den was unwilling to prove that they have a sole mandate on the rental of the property and refused to disclose the Owner's details for discussion.
They were also unwilling to add a clause to the lease contract stating (in writing) the mentioned right to keep pets on the property (even though this is stated in the body corporate rules.
