Since 2011 we have been trying to get my husband a correct passport - the first one had an incorrect place of birth. After endless false explanations, including that he would be deported (despite being a legitimate SA citizen), we discovered after an upgrade to the website that it is possible to "rectify" an error made by home affairs on the national population register. Back we went to George for the umpteenth time, handed in an unabridged birth certificate and were assured that the matter would be dealt with. Three months later each manager passes us on to an assistant who passes us on, ad infinitum, but every time we reach someone who does not respond. Who is this mysterious person in Pretoria who is supposed to rectify the population register? Does such a person actually exist? Does he/she feel empowered by holding us hostage? Can the rectification be made so that my husband can get his passport, please!! But does it help to complain - Home Affairs does not seem to respond, even to Hello Peter.
