Department of Home Affairs
Unlawfully Married

In August 2007, I went to the Department of Home Affairs in Alexandra to apply for my childs birth certificate and to my surprise I was told I am married to Mohamed. I told them I dont know about that and they said I should go to the police station and fill in an Affidavit inorder to open a case and bring it back to them. I did that and I was then issued with a birth certificate for my daughter with my mothers surname which I have been using since I was born. And to my suprise again in 2011, I had another baby and when I went to apply for his certificate I found that they havent changed the surname and no one was willing to assist me. they gave me a run around until 1 of them gave me their call centre number which is 0800601190. When I called the call centre I was told to go to the police station again to fill an Affidavit stating that I dont know the person. I did that and faxed it back to them and they kept on saying I should phone every 2weeks to find out how far they are and every 2weeks when I phone I am told to fax an Affidavit. So, I dont know what to do anymore because this has ruined my life. I speak to different people every time when I phone and they dont even phone me
