Sunday Times still refer Mthatha as Transkei, I saw this when the times reported about the flooding that occured in Mthatha, Idutwya and surrounding towns on their paper late last year. I feel offended with the continuing usage of this name as I come from Mthatha. I feel this name is related with Apartheid. The continuing usage of this name does cause a damage, Hellen Zille refered to people from Eastern Cape as refugees, Transkei was a country on its own. This is South Africa, there is no longer Traansval, Garankua and Bophuthatwsana.
I wrote to the times and Sunday Times editor at that time I saw the article last year but they never responded. My spouse was their customer to them as she subscride to them. We were receiving papers but we have since stopped the subscription.
