The Media Workers Association Of South Africa (mwasa)
UNIONISTS CASH IN ON STATE ENTITIES

The Gensec of Mwasa, Tuwani Gumani has failed in his duties as the leader of the Mwasa union towards its organisers and members. One Member in particular that is standing out namely Joey Edwards. He has been a shop steward for 24 years and organiser for 3 years and in 2011 he received a letter of appointment confirming his capacity as Provincial Organiser with a verbal promise of a salary of R5000.00 pm and a travel and cell allow of R2500. To date Joey has been receiving bits and pieces, nothing for months and never a full amount. Nevertheless Joey has not failed in his duties to represent his members despite receiving no compensation from Mwasa. In fact the union members paid for his transport to come in and represent them in their cases. I am a very disgusted member who Joey helped and he protected me, leaving me informed and nothing was too much for Joey when it came to do my case calling me 24/7 in case we missed something in my case. Tuwani was the opposite, ignoring his calls and mails as well as the members concerns. Tuwani himself gets paid R11, 000 per meeting as per the headline in the Sunday Ind of 29/9, Joey actually opened up to us Mwasa members in public mtgs.
