Lack of response and withholding deposit

On about the 7th December 2012 I contacted Cape Town Signage after finding them on the internet with what appeared to be good references in their gallery of pictures. I discussed what was needed, a small job of window signage. I only ever spoke to "Cliffy" who advised he could do the entire job within the next 2 days, 5 days maximum from the date of payment of the 70% deposit. I promptly paid the deposit on the 12th December 2012 and arranged for the relevant person (my representative) to be at the site since Cliffy was going to meet on site to confirm the finer details. He was a "no show". This continued until the end of December on many occasions each time with me or my representative phoning him to arrange a meeting. NOT ONCE DID HE CONTACT EITHER MYSELF OR MY REPRESENTATIVE. We all closed for the Xmas, first week of January I AGAIN called him. His excuse was that he couldn't get hold of my respresentative (a blatant lie). A meeting was again set up late January, again no show. He is now withholding my 70% deposit. I demanded a refund by Friday 8th and am now suing for the repayment. At all costs, rather use a reputable, registered, legitimate company for your signage!
