Its such a pity that I find myself compelled to write about Cakes for Africa in bad light because of the bitter taste the management staff left in my mouth.
On the 20th of January 2013 I called Cakes for Africa looking to buy a cake for my 5 yr old's birthday. I was referred to the internet by a rude lady to look at the pictures of the cakes where I would find a code and price for the cake I wanted. I then called again, gave her 2 codes for 2 cakes that cost R270 each. I was told to pay a deposit to which I insisted on paying cash (eft = R540). later that day they refused to give my brother the cakes because he was there at 17:03 and they close at 17:00. the following day my brother went back to collect the cakes, they told him he needed to pay a balance of R80, R15 x2 for same day payment (which I knew nothing about) and R50 because the cakes had just increased to R295 but they had not yet updated the prices on the internet... what a joke. If this is not mediocre customer service, I don't know what is. when I went back to their website, they updated the prices to R290 and not R295.
in all this, the manager insists on defending his staff. No apology whatsoever. Disappointed!
