I've known Susan Spencer for the past 15 yrs and know her old type German Shepherd bloodline i.e. Olderhills, very well. I regard her to be one of the most ethical breeders that I know of, with the highest standards and principles. I am on my 2nd Olderhill from Susan, whilst an acquaintance of mine had 10 from her - all of them success stories.
Old type German Shepherds were declared 'rare to extinct' in 2008 (Wikipedia). The Olderhills are therefore very rare and valuable and MUST be preserved. (The selling price of a Vom Wolfshof, a similar type of old GSD in Germany, is currently 10k euros.)
Unfortunately I am unable to persuade Susan to breed more than the very few she breeds a year (I doubt whether she's bred more than 10 pups the past 2 yrs). Her reason is that some people have mistreated her dogs and she's only interested in breeding for family and friends who previously had Olderhills and are a known quality.
She's therefore more concerned with her dogs' welfare than making money. She has also rescued and re-homed thousands of dogs at her own expense. I can only compliment and recommend her honesty, integrity and accomplishment as a breeder to the highest degree.
