I cancelled my membership to this gym in January 2013 . I paid a HUGE cancellation fee too. EVERYTHING was verified via email and I cancelled my debit order BOTH at the gym and at the bank. Yet, every 3 months or so, these people present a Debit order of between R200 and R400 to my bank and the money is taken out of my account WITHOUT MY CONSENT. A few months ago they presented THREE debit orders to the value of R400 each incorrectly and I had to spend hours in the bank to get them reversed. In July this year, my friendly bank manager directed an email to them instructing that this debit order was unauthorised, and guess what... yeah you guessed it, this morning ANOTHER R400 was debited!!
Why is there NOWHERE the consumer can go to put an end to debit orders??? The bank sends me back to the supplier, Yet the supplier keeps presenting the debit order and the bank lets it through even though I have stopped the order at the bank and supplier SEVERAL TIMES!! Is there no banking ombudsman or such where these people can be taken to task, I am really weary of sitting in the bank on Saturday mornings to reverse debit orders I have already cancelled!
