My mother-in-law was recently operated on at Netcare Unitas. The treatment received from some nursing staff was absolutely shocking. Prior to the op, in ward 1D, she had to walk to a vending machine to buy Coke when her sugar levels were around 1 mmol/L, as the nurse did not know what to do to get the levels back up. While in MICU, she fell out of her bed on her head and had drips ripped from her neck. The hospital then sent her for a CT scan, which came off HER medical aid??? When confronted, the nursing staff said " you know, theses things happen. The sister had to leave the bed to go get medicine"!!
We brought this under the attention of the hospital manager, Adelle Johnstone, but received a very generic letter from her apologising. I forwarded the response two weeks ago to Netcare's customer services department, without any response. I also just tried to contact them, but hung up after holding on for 10 minutes.
