Fedhealth Medical Scheme
Sexism

I am writing to report unprofessional & sexist behaviour by your call operators. Your staff needs gender sensitivity training!

I received a voicemail from a male operator ONCE AGAIN calling me Mrs Morison. My birthname is Morison & my title is Doctor. I've corrected this (I think even the same operator actually) in the past. People make mistakes, but since this has occurred repeatedly I'm inclined to say that it's more than a simple mistake. I am, in fact, (wrongly) recorded as SINGLE on my memeber profile. Reffering to me as Mrs really can only be due to an assumption. An insulting and incorrect assumption

It seems that staff members are merely assuming that female clients are married & disregarding our professional qualifications. This is sexist because it based on (very out-dated) assumptions about women & would not happen to male clients. Many women today (1) have professional titles; (2) keep their birthnames; &/or (3) do not call themselves MRS even if they are married. If a staff member is unsure MS is a safer option. However, surely consutlants should have member details when they make call?
