As we all know, South Africa offers below standard medical assistance and you have to pay a fortune to get medical cover that actually covers. Companies now require employees to join their medical aid schemes without consideration of the following:
- The loss of previous benefits from the employees previous medical aid scheme.
- Lost maternity benefits.
My husband joined a new company and was forced to move from Discovery to Prime Cure and we fell pregnant a month after joining only to find out that they will not cover birth however, if I had stayed with Discovery, I would have been covered. We are currently in the process of going to the ombudsman. The company did not educate anyone of the implication of joining this scheme and there was no representative to assist employees before joining. This is a blatant display of '' We want your money, but please don't get sick and need us to pay for anything''.
I would suggest that Prime cure be steered clear of. They are not as popular as other medical schemes for a reason. We are keeping our hopes high. We hope we win the battle with the ombudsman.
Prime cure is truly a waste of time.
