I honestly think that Discovery is a RIP OFF!!! The only reason I am with them is because the company contributes a portion towards my medical aid. I used to be on Bankmed Traditional Plan, with no savings. I fell pregnant, had my baby and did not have to pay in a cent. ALL my expenses for the pregnancy was paid for, from scans, to the birth, to my stay in hospital and out, I even received a gift bag from them. I am pregnant again and on Discovery, exact same doctor, exact same hospital that I had my 1st one with and I am having to pay in R7901!!! That is only for the day of the birth!!! They haven't covered any of my scans in full, who know how much extra I will have to pay for the paed, anaesthetist's etc?! The strangest of all is that I am ob the classic comprehensive plan!!! what's the use?!
My inlaws are having the same issue she too has to go for an op that costs R17grand and they have to pay in over R9000, more than what Discovery is going to pay!!! Maybe we should support Government hospitals with the high costs of Discovery, imagine what public hospitals could do with our contributions, become 5star!
