EXCESSIVE DATA CHARGES

I recently upgraded from Blackberry to the Iphone 5. This month I received a bill from Cell C for R5587.37
After evaluation of the itemised billing I noticed that all of the charges were for data usage. The strange thig is that there is no 3G signal at my home and all the charges in question took place between 12 and 5 AM. Each ranging from R24.00 to R560 per transaction. All Cell C can tell me is that if it was used, (even if the fault of the handset), I will be liable for this bill.
After researching the issue I discovered that this has been an issue with the iphone 5 in Austrailia, UK, Canada and the US. The relevant carriers credited the account and also offered 1Gig of data as a show of good faith. There is no loacal representation by Apple and their distributors are cluless.
I've had to turn off all cellular data to avoid this continuing and can get no help.
So ultiamtely I will probably have to pay this ridiculous amount and be stuck with a phone that cannot use data.
