Tissue donations- University of Pretoria
The public are encouraged to arrange for tissue donations in the event of their death. The University of Pretoria has even set up a website with detailed information on the National Tissue Bank established under auspices of the University. The problem is that since 29 March 2013 we have on five occasions by way of Fax, E-mail, the Postal Service and eventually by hand attempted to register with the Tissue bank the donation of our bodies for the advancement of medical knowledge by way of medical research and training after the age of 70 years, but with no avail. We have had no response whatsoever to any of the five applications. Telephonic enquiries are met with excuses of no applications on record or even poor postal services. After all our attempts one can only ask whether the University is really serious about tissue donations or is it simply a front to promote its image.
