My husband and I, through our attorney terminated the services of Eco Group Civils which is ran by Pobetje Ramodike. He completed 60% of our house then deliberately began delaying work and after we confronted him about the delays, he created a fictitious variation order amount and demanded more money. This is after we had paid him 90% of the value of our contract. Our lawyers sent out a Damages Claim of R500 000 against him which we are still pursuing – we are also aware this is not the first time Ramodike has scammed a client. During the building stage, the quality of work was extremely poor, he was cutting corners on work and claimed it was “work in progress”. He only approaches clients who have a Bank Building Guarantee Loan and persuades them that he can do the work but knowing fully he will NOT complete the project. He also went as far as deceiving the bank by committing that he would complete the project after they had written to him with concerns. We later realised that he was in personal financial distress and used our money to sort out his personal issues which we believe stem from Ramodike trying to keep up appearances and fund his lifestyle.
Ramodike is a pathological liar and should not be trusted as a professional architect or contractor.
In 2021, we lodged a complaint with the SACAP (The South African Council for the Architectural Profession). The council investigated our claim and decided to charge Ramodike for misconduct – we are now waiting to testify with our evidence.
