Man rings the gate bell and says they're selling compost for R20 per bag. I think "how enterprising", and say I'll buy 10.
Rather than just putting them down in the corner, he says that they'll put it down for me. First mistake. Then of course it ends up as more than 10 bags so I agree that they can add more. They end up dumping everything in their bakkie. At each point when I ask "how many bags is that so far", they say "we'll count it for you afterwards". It ended up as 50 bags.
The second surprise (or rather, 'method of applying the ') is that they then said it wasn't R20, but R38, and after some rigorous negotiation they agreed it would be R30 per bag. So a R200 transaction becomes R1500 after my 'discount'.
When Googling them, I found an article called "Scammer on my stoep", referring to a company of the same name with approximately the same (although the website says their compost isn't at all good quality). Be warned. If these try to sell you compost, agree on a price and don't let them put it all over your grass. If they try to change it, just give it back and kick them out.
