No where is there ANY indication of monthly subscription required after 3 months. Only once unit is set-up and data downloaded, there is a small foot note warning subscription will expire in 3 months. If this option is not taken up, functionality will be limited.
According to their local web page (have to dig to find this info!): The standard GPS Log Book has no subscription fee. We do offer an optional GPS Log Book Pro subscription of R15/month paid annually, which offers enhanced functionality like mobile odometer capture, trip categorization and automatic address lookup. The GPS Log Book LiVE has a monthly subscription of R89 per month.

Thereafter you will have to renew your subscription in order to continue to use the system. The annual subscription fee of $29 includes the cloud hosting for the web and your data plus the licence fees we need to pay Google for the maps.
