I took my car to Supa Quick in Strydom Park on Malibongwe Drive to have new tyres fitted. In under 5 minutes I was told I needed to replace all 4 shock absorbers on my car. The reason? The way the tyres were wearing. The cost? R6800!!!
Thankfully I was in a hurry so said I would return the following day to have them done. That evening a friend said it was very strange that I needed to replace my shocks on my model car.
This made me suspicious, so I took my car to BMW. After raising my car up on the lift, I was told there was absolutely nothing wrong with my shocks and I should not have to replace them unless my car was in an accident.
I then took my car to AutoQuip to have the wheel alignment done (I had not done it when the tyres were fitted as I was going to go back the next day to have the shocks done). At AutoQuip my car was again raised and placed on the proper diagnostics machinery which would pick up if there were any problems. Again I was told there was nothing at all wrong with my shocks.
How many other unsuspecting people have Supa Quick Strydom Park ripped off like this? Check before you give the go ahead for a costly job - you may save a lot of money!
