Repair of vehicle without authorisation

We had dropped our vehicle at Bircheno for a problem with our clutch. We have an extender with Hollard. When we got to Bircheno to fetch our vehicle we were informed that the total cost was R 4 724.41. Hollard had first informed Hennie they will pay the full amount and thereafter only paid R 1398.01. We are liable for R 3326.40. He also informed us if we do not pay the full amount the vehicle will not be released to us.

Without confirming the amount with me Hennie went ahead & ordered the parts & started repairing the vehicle. We had to eventually pay the amount & then he says to us that the switch for the fan might not work so we will need to bring it back. When we ask if there is going to be a charge he said yes there will be. After we had taken the car to another company they have tested the car & they confirmed we do not need another fan switch. Also they confirmed that there is a funny sound after the repairs was done at Bircheno.

How can a Company repair a vehicle with authorisation from the owner. How can a Company confirm that the Insurance is going to pay the full amount & then only pay a portion.

We are very unhappy & dissatisfied with the service from Bircheno.
