General Motors South Africa
Failed Engine

My Opel Corsa 1.4L Essentia had 70 000km on the odometer when the engine started making a strange sound. When I took this to the dealership they informed me that the pistons had shrunk. They did admit that it was the third car with the same problem that they had seen in that month but would not admit that it could be a factory fault. I have since spoken to other mechanics and no one can provide me with a reasonable explanation as to how metal (pistons) can shrink and this not be as a result of factory defects. The only solution they gave me was to redo the engine at a total cost of R50 000 - this on a car with a value of R90 000 is absolutely ridiculous. They final result was that I traded the car in and received the sum total of R45 000 for it - scrap metal it might have been but to take such a financial knock on a vehicle as a result of something that is not my fault is unacceptable.
