Shell South Africa
Water in petrol

On the 6th of June I drove from home to work, about 30kms, where I needed to put in petrol. I filled my car with 35.62l petrol at the Oswald Pirow Shell station. My tank only has a capacity of 35l - so I was practically running on fumes when I pulled into the station. I managed to get roughly 100m down the road when my car died. Upon further investigation (thanks to a repair division of Lexis in my building) that I had water in my petrol. The car to be towed to our mechanic as it wouldn't start. As it turns out the entire fuel system had to be removed and cleaned from the tank to the injectors. We later found that the injectors too were damaged as they were clogged up by so called mould that grows in fuel storage tanks. The mechanic drained the petrol, and the water contaminant can be clearly seen in the samples. We spoke to the station owner and Shell headoffice in SA and both parties have denied any accountability stating basically that we cannot prove that the water got into my tank through their petrol. We have also been offered no other explanation, and very little assistance. If anyone else had an issue with this Shell, please let me know.
