Decided to spoil myself on a nice steak last night, and went to News Cafe Menlyn.
Go check this yourself - amazing piece of misleading advertising.
The Menu's divided into various sections... like Starters, Finger Foods, Platters etc. Under the big heading GRILLS... their steaks are listed. All of the steaks are blocked in blue, with the basic, selection of steaks at the top... and then the more expensive "Signature Steaks" underneath these... still under the heading GRILLS and also blocked in blue with the rest. At the top of the section, next to GRILLS is written: "... all steaks served with chips AND corn on the cob..." Clear enough eh? You'd be ordering a R145 steak... and getting R1's worth of chips and another buck's worth of corn?..NOT!!
Big was my surprise when presented with a solitary steak (delicious enough)... all by itself... sitting there all alone - no starches... nada!
After a complaint to the waiter... I was presented with a tiny bowl of chips... but even after explaining the meaning of the word AND vs. OR... I was basically told whatcha gonna do? by the manager.
Getting ripped off on basically the most expensive dinner for one on their menu
