Very disheartened. You'd expect a restaurant that has recently been accused of Racism and Misogyny to know better than to degrade other customers.
Especially in the face of over-priced, average tasting food.
So many better places to go.
#spetada
So, this weekend kind-of shook my faith in humanity. We are both so angry at the owner of #spetada for his blatant bigotry and I am angered further by his refusal to apologise when he was given a plethora of opportunities to do so. #bigotry and cowardice frustrate me, and a combination of the two make me see a red that extends far beyond my normal anger.
As Mark said -
"We live in this brave new world where we are moving towards some sense of equality. Yet those of us who are ostracized feel the frustration most, progress is slow...
It's a new world, people who have hate don't belong in this world... People who embrace life and choose to love hold the power, we are the future."
The longer I dwell on it, the more upset I become. We did nothing wrong, and had paid the bill in full before we went to complain about the way the menu was set out. You would think a bill of R1300.00 would be sufficient to at least get an ounce of decency out of the owner - it would seem that it was not the case.
What I am most upset by however, is the fact that Mark and I are not affectionate in public - it's actually quite a big deal for us to even hug each other when we're not at home. And yet, the assumption that we were gay was made, and due to this we were treated differently.
We have decided to take it further beginning with a charge of crimen injuria against the owner and are seeking council as to what our options are.
Again, please get this information out as far as possible - #bigotry in any form is unacceptable.
