I have homeowners insurance with Standard Bank for a sum of approximately R1 Million and have been paying monthly premiums religously for the past 2 years on the property. On 15 February 2013 my house was burgled and structurally damaged and i immediately reported this to the police and Standard Bank and provided them with police case numbers and details of the damage.
It's been two weeks and there has been no progress or resolution on my claim and have been advised that they will not process the claim until i furnish them with police docket (A1 statement from the police station). I strongly believe that these requests are unreasonable and unethical are intended to styphen and frustrate me. Obtaining or making a copy of a police file is illegal.
Sadly the delays are impacting on my well being and that of my caretaker because the damage is on the doors, burglar bars and fear that they will return to do more damage if the structural damage is not fixed.
The damage has left me and my family vulnerable. I will take this matter up with the Ombudsman because Standard bank is imposing unreasonable requirements to prevent my claim being processed.
