CHARGED FOR REJECTED DEBIT ORDERS BALANCE INCORREC

It would appear that the banking industry can do as they please and charge what they want and clients must just accept it! Over the December holidays we as a family suffered a very traumatic experience which put major strain on our finances - we are however continually striving to improve our credit rating. We however had as few rejected debit orders, for which Absa charged us, however the sms's received after transactions indicated that funds were available. When we queried we are told that it has to do with the chip cards and that the transactions made had not yet gone through the bank - this i could accept if we were checking bank statements but the sms received shows transaction amount and then available balance? So if your bank statement cannot be relied on and neither can the sms service subscribed to, how are we to know our balance? Walk around with a calculator and note book? Why do we pay for a service if you cannot rely on the correctness of the service? Other sms's received never gives the correct balance? Please check FNB they do not appear to have this problem and statements clearly shows uncleared amounts and correct balances?
