I have been an Outsurance client for 14 yrs. I got a call today about life cover which I was considering. The consultant asked a few questions, one of which was "So you're happily married? " A very insensitive way to ask the question!! I am recently divorced so I stated that I am now divorced. A few hours later I get a call saying that because my marital status has changed, my car premiums go up approx 25%. Absolutely ludicrous that my marital status should have any effect on my car premiums!! I was told it affects my risk profile. If I crash my car or my eyesight deteriorates I can understand a premium increase. But my partner has an extramarital affair which results in divorce & I am punished by Outsurance for it!!? I think it's shocking & completely unacceptable. I am no greater risk behind the wheel of my car because I'm single! The consultant said household income deceases with a divorce. So what!? Why is this relevant? No one checked that this is the case anyway. If my premiums are increased because I'm divorced, I will cancel my 14 yr policy & find an insurance company that doesn't punish divorcees & single parents! Will post on FB & twitter too if not resolved so others know
