Cancelled Amex card 2010

In 2010 this card was paid off and was even in credit and supposed to be cancelled. No correspondence was ever received from Amex in this regard from 2010 to date until I was informed by the credit bureau that an amount of R411.00 was owing on this card. The card was cancelled in 2010 and paid off in excess of the amount owing on the card at that time. Amex did not cancel the card, did not correspond with me to this effect and carried on charging fees (now idea what fees as Nedbank could not even print a statement for this account)! I subsequently phones Amex, held on for ages, spent R 150.00 in cell phone charges, eventually got throught to the legal department who did not answer the phone, left a message for them to call back and two week later am still waiting for the return call. This level of service is unacceptable. If I am unable to make sure that the card is cancelled Amex will then once again charge more fees, not correspond and my credit record is adversely affected due to their negligence and efficiency.
