Who would have ever thought that it would be sooo difficult to close a banking account. But when you look at it as a whole you realise that the bank is actually tantamount to extortion. Many years ago i had opened a sole prop business chequing account with FNB and from time to time had traded through the account. I then got a new job and moved to a different city. I made numerous attempts to close the account at various branches where stay. Always the same answer, it must be closed at the branch it is held. So MOVE it to his branch then!!! Answer to that is that they do not move accounts to different branches any more. After some time I had completely forgotten about the account until I get an sms say that I have been handed over for R335.32.!!! So I can't close my account but once you can at anytime. I did phone and lay a complaint the same day to which iwas told, by the lady in the complaints department, "this is absurd. I will come back to you first thing in the morning Mr. du Plessis". It is two months down the line and I am still waiting for my response.

Please people... DO NOT DARE move to another town and then decide you want to move bank. Bank first.
