In the past, I booked my monthly R700 change in R10 notes in advance to collecting it at Standard Bank Braamfontein.
But last week I showed up unannounced to request change for the measly amount of R330. After I queued for 30 minutes, teller Abram adviced that there was no change in R10 notes available. I asked for the service manager Madla Tshabalala. Abram asked that I step aside while we wait for Madla. I of course refused such disrespectful request.
Together, Madla and Abram explained that the vault was closed because it is a Saturday, etc. I explained that it is the bank's business to keep change for its customers and that I was now faced with another 30 minutes queueing at another bank to get change. At that moment, to add to my irritation, Abram and Madla began to smile (almost laughing). I then promised that I would report the branch, as I hereby do.
This is not the first time that, when unable to get change at Standard Braamfontein, I go to ABSA Braamfontein and I get all of it without any quibbles. Therefore I'm convinced that there is a trend: Standard does not keep change, ABSA keeps change. Thank you Standard from a customer who began to bank with you in 1989.
