Had a sad experience with my motor policy. Just watch out for this. In 2006 took cover on a twin cab, diesel highrider Toyota bakkie. Was told the annual insurance was done at retail. Each year it has increased to R850 pm. Yesterday I asked for the retail value and told R120 000.00!!! Where has the insurance at retail gone? A total rip off. Revalue 1 attempt it dropped to R585.23 with R1000.00 excess. On complaining told to ignore this quote and 2nd one arrived at RR548.65 and excess up'd to R3210.00!!! Asked for a quote on a new Toyota D/C highrider (Dakar) value R414000.00 (SAME VEHICLE) and got a quote of R779.04 with excess of R1000.00. The consultant could not explain the glaring rip off other than the old vehicle escalated each year and that any revalue is my responsibility??? Yet the vehicle is covered "AT RETAIL". The other explanation that a 7 year old vehicle cover being R150.00 more than a new vehicle with a value difference of R300 000.00 is that spares on the old vehicle are expensive.
