Alexander Forbes Insurance recently ran a competition (they called it a challenge) on radio: "If we can't beat the current premium on your homeowners insurance policy, we will pay you R1, 000.00." I took up their challenge and submitted all necessary documentation. AFI could not beat my current insurance premium! In fact, AFI were almost double my current premium. However, AFI did not pay the R1, 000.00 as they claim that the two policies are not "like-for-like"! Both insurance companies have particular nice-to-have "add ons" and no two insurance policies will EVER be "like-for-like"! False advertising? At the time, it was claimed by their Cobus van Staden that AFI had not previously paid out any prize money. Was I instrumental in AFI discontinuing their radio advertising campaign which has come to an abrupt end?
