As Treasurer of an Association, which banks with FNB, I carelessly made a payment into an old account which one of our suppliers had with Standard Bank. As it turned out, Standard Bank had subsequently reissued the account to somebody else. To obtain a refund FNB asked me to fill in a set of forms, which had to be verified by the branch where the account was held. A month later they sent me a computer generated email informing me "unsuccessful - no authority to debit".
Standard Bank Hyde Park went to a great deal of trouble to contact the new owner of the account, came to the conclusion that the account was dormant, transferred into a domestic account the cash which I had transferred, and the next day transferred the money bank to my Association's account by express transfer.
Thanks Doreen and Standard Bank. Boo to FNB.
