Discovery Life
EMPTY PROMISES

In January'13 I received a call from discovery Life, they wanted to send a consultant out to meet me. I met with the consultant, Sandy Combrinck, on Friday, 08 February'13. Sandy explained certain aspects of the policy to me, such as, while having the policy, if I suffer from a dread disease then I would receive a payout. I then told Sandy that in September'12, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. On 21 September'12, a Lumpectomy and Reduction surgery was performed on me. Sandy said that she'd find out about the payout. On Monday, 11 February'13, Sandy called, saying that she had wonderful news, I was going to receive a payout of 25% of my policy and she was able to give the amount in ZAR. I had to complete paperwork and return it to her. It took a good few weeks for me to get the paperwork completed as my Oncologist was overseas. After a number of weeks, I contacted Sandy, enquiring about the payout. Sandy said that Discovery had decided that I didn't qualify for the payout and this was after she had been told that I would be paid out 25% of the policy value. How can Discovery renege on a promise made, after actually giving me the Rand amount that I would be receiving?!
