I had a Platinum Package (cheque account and credit card) with ABSA until I decided to move to another bank in May 2012.
The process of cancelling my package was an ongoing and frustrating process, and it was necessary to get my local branch manager involved (Sandy Smit). Eventually, in July 2012, I had confirmation from Sandy that my accounts had been closed.
However, I have now (about 18 months later) starting receiving threatening phone calls from ABSA stating I owe money on my credit card (18 months worth of card fees, no doubt, as I stopped using it).
I have told the call centre repeatedly that my credit card was closed more than a year ago, but all promises to investigate and get back to me are not kept. Instead, I just receive more threatening calls and sms's from different people, without any knowledge of the supposed investigation on their side.
I have emailed Sandy Smit numerous times, but I have yet to receive a response.
I have the email trail between Sandy and myself, proving that I requested my package (and I explicitly mentioned my credit card) to be closed in 2012.
Please stop calling me and asking for payment, because you're not getting a cent from me.
