I applied for a loan at Capitec recently and was approved. To my surprise Capitec deducted an amount of R3000 from that loan, for an account that prescribed a long time ago. I had a loan which I had confirmed with your Legal department that it was settled due to prescription. The loan was last paid in 2009 and I didn't have any contact in connection with it for over 3 years. In terms of the Prescription Act, that debt has prescribed already and Capitec shouldn't have deducted it from the new loan I applied for. I need the R3000 back. If I don't get it back within 2 days, I'll be contacting the Ombudsman.
