Yesterday I was meant to be admitted to hospital because I am in severe pain. I have been diagnosed with a condition that should be treated with medication but I feel no relief despite trying various medications and have been in pain for over a year now. My doctor recommended that I be admitted to hospital for further treatment and to check why I am not finding relief. I phoned discovery with the ICD10 code and they requested a treatment plan which I was unable to give them because my doctor was planning on examining me before proceeding. I was informed by one of the staff at the hospital that many other medical aids dont require a treatment plan. Why then do discovery require it? When I spoke to the lady at admissions she informed me that I need a treatment plan and she said that she doesnt care if Im in pain because I dont have a treatment plan I cant be admitted. If a specialist has recommended that I go into hospital and recieve treatment then why does the medical aid refuse to admit me. Surely the doctor knows what he is doing and is looking out for the needs of the patient. I am also investigating changing medical aid now as I am sure I will receive better service elswhere.
