Intercape
Intercape unroadworthy vehicle allowed to travel

My partner boarded the Intercape coach to East London yesterday at 16:30 headed to East London via Transkei. Before the coach had reached Johannesburg Park Station she informed me that the coaches brakes were grinding noisily every time the driver braked. She was concerned that the coach was unroadworthy and with over 1000km to travel it would not be safe.

The coach continued on it's journey until Kokstad when the breaks failed and the coach was stranded. They are currently waiting for a replacement coach which supposedly left Durban over 2 hours ago.

I contacted Intercape via email this morning but have not received any response from them.

There are two issues here, firstly that Intercape and/or the driver chose to ignore what was an obvious safety problem with the breaks and secondly that they have little or no concept of customer service.

The road to East London via Transkei is a grueling one with many hills and bends which put stress on any vehicle and Intercape and/or the driver have acted in a criminally negligent manner by continuing the trip. The lives of all the passengers were put at risk.

They have a record of not responding to complaints.
