I recently bought a ticket to New Zealand with Qantas through Flight Centre and on booking my baggage in at OR Tambo airport I was charged R11000 for excess baggage. Qantas said I had to buy pre paid excess baggage and now had to pay that amount. I had no choice but to pay that sick amount and it was for a bicycle and 1 bag with cycling equipment in. I was never asked if I wanted to buy excess baggage, I could've bought a 1st class ticket most probably with the total I ended up paying!
