Vodacom say IMPOSSIBLE

My blackberry was and I needed my IMEI number to blacklist my phone. After calling the Vodacom Blacklisting Helpline they told me there was no way to get my IMEI number if I have thrown the box away. I found this hard to believe so i went into the Vodacom Shop in Hemingways Mall where they ALSO told me it is impossible to do. I then went to Cellucity also in Hemingways Mall and they told me it is very possible, and that Vodacom could have done it for me. Cellucity gave me my IMEI number and blacklisted my phone within 2minutes.
