Bad Cell C Service

I became ill since July 2012. During that period i was unable to make calls and on top of that lost my phone. Cell C continued to deduct the contract fee of R 150 in my account. I went to do a sim swap yesterday, 26/02/2013, only to find that i have R 550 worth of airtime. I called the customer care line and was informed that every 3 months Cell C forfeits unused airtime. My questions are: why did Cell C, seeing that the line was inactive, not suspend it and stop deducting? Are Cell C clients not allowed to go sick? Where did my money that was deducted go then? My wife and sister are using this network and am begging them everyday to leave this Spaza network. please help me to recoup my hard earnd money from this circus network.
